The Vulcan B Mk II Flies Again!!! We still do the full set of plans! And we now also do a kit of all the 170 cut parts.
This set of plans (all 40 sq ft of them) is taken directly from the Avro/D H wind tunnel drawings for the B Mk II bomber (the final form). All the ribs and formers are laid out plank-wise so it is possible to stick them directly to the planks with artist’s spray adhesive and then cut them out. There is a formidable number of parts to be cut so you may prefer to have those laser cut for you. An excellent set of laser-cut parts is now available. An estimate of the materials required for the model is as follows: 16 off 4" x 36" x 3/16" medium/hard balsa sheet. 2 off 4" x 36" x 1/8" ditto 1 off 3" x 36" x 1/4" ditto 1 off 6" x 36" x 1/16" plywood. 1 off 6" x 36" x 1/8" plywood. The above items will not be required if the parts kit is ordered, you will also need:
2 off 1" x 3/16" x 36" trailing edge section. 45 off 1/4" x 1/8" x 36" medium/hard balsa strip. 30 off 1/16" x 4" x 36" medium/soft balsa sheet. 2 off 3/8" x 1/2" x 18" hardwood engine bearers 1 off 5/8" dia x 36" tube to serve as building jig and wing reinforcement.
A wing/jig tube as above is now available. Part No V-JIG.
We can supply a set of vacuum-formed shapes for the upper and lower engine shapes plus cockpit, bomb-aimer's window, parachute hatch and electronic countermeasures bay (12 in all). Part No V-VAC. The builder will only be left with the job of forming the jet pipes - litho plate being a recommended material for that. The original model was pictured at the Nats in RCM&E August 71 and reviewed by the same mag in the following month. It is big - 6 ft span and 9 sq ft of wing. The fuselage is 5' 4" long but only 18" wide with the wings detached. Even if you overdo the paint, a 0.60 2-stroke with pusher prop has no trouble getting it flying. Like most deltas it doesn't stall, it just mushes if short of speed. Doesn't drop a wing either (lots of wash-out). It will roll and loop and generally handle like a sportster. Take off run is minimal because of the low wing-loading: 10-12 lb spread over 9 sq ft doesn't amount to much and I flew the original on a Merco 61, not the most powerful of engines. I would get control flutter if I dived it too fast but that was with snakes to a central mechanical servo mixer, in-wing servos eliminate that. When ordering plans.
